A COMPELLING STORY OF YEARNING AND OPTIMISM

Adam Kelly is, in his words, an autistic gentleman. His friend, Finbar, is a fish. Adam thinks that asking someone what it feels like to live with autism is pretty much like asking a fish (i.e. Finbar) if it knows it’s in water, which is pretty funny if you think about it.

This is an idea from Adam’s show about living with autism, or, in Finbar the fish’s case, living in water. The show, called ARCO (an acronym that will be fully explained for audience members), takes a heartfelt look at the life and struggles of a young man trying to make connections with the people and world around him. Along the way Adam asks gently of his audience to consider life from his perspective.

ARCO JNR

A compelling personal story of yearning and optimism, is the muchanticipated feature-length children’s version of Adam Kelly’s award-winning show, ARCO.

Co-written and co-created by Adam Kelly and James Berlyn, this charming WA Youth Theatre Company production has been developed for children aged 7+ with invaluable dramaturgy from Alex Desebrock.

Supercharged by the exciting animations of fellow Perth-based neurodiverse artist Ben Hollingsworth, ARCO Jnr introduces lovable protagonist Finbar the fish, firebreathing Morguthul and others, to assist with storytelling. In his solo performance, Adam uses the characters to paint a picture of the different parts of himself, and to share the message that we’re acceptable in our entirety; just the way we are.

Whilst exploring sensitive themes of difference and rejection, the show holds to a sense of wonder and delight throughout and ultimately instils positivity, finishing on a note of brilliant optimism.

ARCO Jnr is an illuminating and joyful journey for the whole family. Join us as Adam and Finbar dance, draw, fly and joke their way into our hearts.
