Two very different Italian families don’t realize they’re being brought together for a wedding, and especially not one for their respective, aging patriarchs. A comedic delight set against gorgeous Mediterranean scenery.
Two very different Italian families arrive, to their shared surprise, at the same house for a summer holiday by the sea. The aristocratic Castelvecchios are open-minded and eccentric if self-absorbed, whereas the working-class Petagnas are tight-knit southerners united around their conservative family values.
Only Tony and Carlo, the two middle-aged heads of the families, know what has brought such distant worlds together. Disagreements about what constitutes a good time – loud music and banana boats or sipping wine and peaceful contemplation – immediately become a source of tension, though these arguments are just the beginning. The unexpected announcement of the engagement between these two patriarchs soon turns everyone’s lives upside down.
With the wedding already set for three weeks, Tony’s daughter Penelope and Carlo’s son Sandro join forces to try to sabotage the impending marriage. Chaos and catastrophe reign on this seemingly ordinary summer in a genuinely charming Italian comedy reminiscent of La Cage Aux Folles. Gorgeous Mediterranean scenery and a stunning cast, including Alessandro Gassmann and Jasmine Trinca, make this film a pure delight.
