Four friends, all high school teachers, test a theory that they will improve their lives by maintaining a constant level of alcohol in their blood.
Direct from the Toronto International Film Festival comes the reunion of the team behind The Hunt: director Thomas Vinterberg and Scandinavia’s biggest star Mads Mikkelsen.
Four middle age buddies, all teaching at the same school, decide to test the theory that humans suffer from a deficit in blood alcohol level, which increases inhibitions and limits sociability and creativity.
Initially they aim for a constant level of intoxication through the working day, but inevitably, things get out of hand. Vinterberg, veteran maestro of the Dogme movement, pours us a sobering comedy about the consequences of living life on the sauce, and dealing with the world through the bottom of a glass.
An outstanding ensemble cast deliver a dark, and typically Danish, look at the travails of middle-aged men, at friendships and at choices made. “It’s not just a film about drinking. Our ambition was to make a film about living,” said director Vinterberg.
