Director Alexander Nanau follows a crack team of investigators at the Romanian newspaper Gazeta Sporturilor as they try to uncover a vast health-care fraud that enriched moguls and politicians and led to the deaths of innocent citizens.

One of the most gripping and important documentaries of our time, Collective follows the dogged investigation of an heroic team of journalists from The Gazette as they systematically uncover layer on layer of shocking corruption in the Romanian national healthcare system.
Described ‘as tense and as taut as a great fictional drama’, Collective not only highlights importance of free and independent media, the power of activism and stepping up to make change, but the human faces of the people who pay the price and make a difference.
This Romanian documentary directed, written, produced and edited by Alexander Nana had its world premiere at the 2019 Venice Film Festival, and became the first Romanian film to be nominated for an Academy Award, reaching the shortlist for Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film categories in 2021.
