Performance that passes the pub test

I Liked it, BUT… goes where few ‘experimental contemporary immersive performance’ works dare to tread… out of the theatre and into the bar to see what passes the ‘pub test’.

Grab a drink and enjoy some tunes with Joel and local musicians for a Pub Trivia Night about the craziest, weirdest, most confusing stuff he’s ever had to see on and off of a stage.

Expect very silly stories about very serious people, served with tongue firmly in cheek. Together, we’ll try and work out how stuff even gets made, and why we should care.

World Premiere at the Canberra Theatre Centre 2021 with further support from the City of Darebin, City of Yarra, QL2 Dance, BlakDance and Chunky Move

Joel Bray is currently a BlakDance, BlakForm Artist funded through Restart Investment to Sustain and Expand (RISE) Fund – an Australian Government initiative. He is also Chunky Move’s 2021 & 2022 Choreographer in Residence supported by Chunky Move and the Tanja Liedtke Foundation

Joel Bray

Naarm-based Joel Bray is a proud Wiradjuri dancer and performance-maker who performed with European companies and choreographers and with CHUNKY MOVE. Joel’s intimate dance-theatre encounters in unorthodox spaces spring from his Wiradjuri heritage, and use humour to engage audiences in rituals about sex, history, trauma and healing.

Joel’s major works- Biladurang, Dharawungara, Daddy, Considerable Sexual License and I Liked It, BUThave toured to the Brisbane, Sydney, Darwin, Midsumma, Auckland, LiveWorks and Dance Massive Festivals and Arts Centre Melbourne. Joel was the 2019 National Library of Australia Creative Arts Fellow, a New Breed choreographer with Sydney Dance Company and is Chunky Move’s inaugural Choreographer-in-Residence.
