The Kohesia Ensemble presents an exciting workshop on Persian music, introducing you to some traditional stringed instruments such as oud, saz and setar, as well as ney (flute) and daf (hand-drum).
We will explore the history of these instruments, their special features and limitations, and the challenges of playing alongside modern Western instruments.
Experience how elements of Persian scales and rhythms can combine with jazz through a shared emphasis on improvisation.
In this workshop, you’ll be invited to bring your own instrument along and ‘jam’ with Kohesia Ensemble, using improvisation techniques discussed in the workshop. Participants without instruments will also be involved through clapping rhythms. This workshop is accessible to people both musicians and non-musicians.
