Development and Connection through music
Caregivers and children of Bunbury-Geographe are invited to connect through music as part of MUSICAL MILESTONES, a pilot program presented by BREC and St John of God Hospital Bunbury.
Children and caregivers will explore, learn and develop together as they are taken on an interactive musical journey facilitated by registered music therapist Claire McGlew.
The program aims to support the healthy development of young children and to foster and strengthen the important connection between child and caregiver whilst proffering an open invitation to learn through music. The sessions are specifically designed for children of all abilities and are highly inclusive.
Families are invited to stay back (Group 1) or come early (Group 2) to share morning tea together from 9:30-10:00am to provide some informal time for additional connection and conversation.
Meet our session Facilitator, Claire McGlew, Registered Musical Therapist
Music has been an important part of Claire’s life and she knows firsthand the effect music can have on physical, emotional, psychological and social health. For this reason, Claire became a Registered Music Therapist as she is passionate about using music to support people to achieve personalised goals.
Claire holds a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Western Australia and a Master of Music Therapy from the University of Melbourne. In her work as an Educator and a Registered Music Therapist Claire has worked with people of all ages and abilities.
She has experience working in schools, aged care, hospitals (in rehabilitation, mental health, oncology, general medicine and birthing), with the infant-parent dyad in early childhood, and with people across the lifespan, in a variety of different circumstances, in her private practice.
Claire is passionate about creating a space where music is accessible, inclusive and meaningful for people of any age and at any stage of their musical journey.
Willow, Claire’s Service Dog
Claire’s service dog Willow will be present during sessions. Claire is vision impaired and Willow, a Seeing Eye Dog, is specially trained to help her move around safely.
During sessions Willow will be tethered in the corner of the room. As she is working, she will not be allowed to say hello to anyone during sessions, including children.
We kindly ask that you and your child not pat or interact with Willow, as it is important she focus on her job. If you have any concerns about the impact Willow may have on you or your child, please feel free to speak with Claire prior to the first session or get in touch with us here at BREC.
The Musical Milesones program is property of St John of God Bunbury Hospital
