The eagerly anticipated new film from the award-winning director of Rams, The County features an unlikely heroine as she fights the status quo in rural Iceland to save her farm – and sets herself free.
After the tragic loss of her husband, Inga (Arndis Hronn Egilsdottir) finds the debt on the family dairy farm is larger than she thought, and sets out to find a way to save it.
In the process, she gradually uncovers corruption and injustice close to home, triggering her rage. Her ensuing – and compelling – David and Goliath battle with the all powerful local co-operative who hold her debt, sets the small Icelandic community at odds. It takes all Inga’s resourcefulness and cunning to break free of the co-op’s grasp and finally live life on her own terms.
The County is a stirring drama, filmed on northern Iceland’s vast, remote and beautiful farmlands.
