Winner of the Berlinale Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize and Best Film in Competition at Sydney Film Festival, writer-director Marcelo Martinessi’s debut drama is an intimate and serenely rewarding story of loss, loyalty and self-determination.
Chela (Ana Brun) and Chiquita (Margarita Irun), are both descended from wealthy families in Asunción, Paraguay and have been living together for over 30 years.
Times have changed though and with debts mounting, the couple begin to sell off precious heirlooms to stay afloat. As the financial situation continues to deteriorate Chiquita is imprisoned on fraud charges and Chela is forced to face a new reality.
Swallowing her pride, Chela reluctantly begins working as a chauffeur for wealthy women of the neighbourhood and begins an unexpected flirtation.
