There’s Still Tomorrow [M]

The breakout hit and highest grossing film of 2023 in Italy (taking more at the box office than both Barbie and Oppenheimer), There’s Still Tomorrow is a vibrant, moving drama starring 50-year-old actress, writer and singer Paola Cortellesi in her directorial debut.

Delia (Cortellesi) lives in a working-class community in Rome in the late 1940s – a city divided between the positive thrust of liberation and the miseries of the war that has just ended – with her domineering husband, Ivano (Valerio Mastandrea), their three children, and father-in-law. She rises above the daily challenges of family life; has a best friend with whom to share moments of levity, and dreams for her daughter Marcella to one day have a better life. Delia accepts her fate – the good with the bad – until one day a mysterious letter arrives.

Shot in resplendent black and white, in the style of post-World War II Italian neorealist filmmakers, There’s Still Tomorrow is a critically acclaimed, bittersweet and empowering tale tinged with a comedic irony.

Winner of Sydney Film Festival Official Competition, Best Film at the Golden Globes and three prizes at the Rome Film Festival, this is one film not to miss on the big screen.

“It delivers the most enjoyable, captivating, provocative and truly original cinema experiences to happen along in quite some time.”
– Herald Sun

“With meticulous design, and Davide Leone’s pitch-perfect camerawork, this is a thoughtful, emotionally satisfying, immensely entertaining one-off, with an ending that smartly dynamites our expectations.”
– Financial Times

“This is storytelling with terrific confidence and panache.”
– Guardian

Paola Cortellesi’s debut – already a breakout hit in Italy – puts the spotlight on women’s post-war subjugation with a satirical depiction of an abusive marriage that’s full of formal playfulness.
– Sight and Sound
