Summer Film Series - Omar

International film is returning to BREC this January! Our Summer Film Series will run every Saturday from 9 January to 6 February, presenting the best of award-winning and foreign films from the past few years.

Omar (M)

98 minutes ~ Drama/Thriller ~ Belgium (sub-titled)

2014 Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film of the Year

Omar (Adam Bakri) is a Palestinian baker who routinely climbs over the separation wall to meet up with his girl Nadja (Leem Lubany). By night, he's either a freedom fighter or a terrorist, ready to risk his life to strike at the Israeli military with his childhood friends Tarek (Eyad Hourani) and Amjad (Samer Bisharat). Arrested after the killing of an Israeli soldier and tricked into an admission of guilt by association, he agrees to work as an informant. So begins a dangerous game - is he playing his Israeli handler (Waleed F. Zuaiter) or will he really betray his cause? And who can he trust on either side?

Pre-order a cheese platter for $18 for two people (or $28 for two including glass of wine each), sit back and enjoy some fantastic cinematic offerings in our Wellington Suite. Orders close 12pm the day prior to each screening. Platters can be pre-purchased in person at the Box Office or by by calling 1300 661 272.

Jim Schembri, 3AW

"The story dishes out action and surprises without losing its political intent."

Steve Rose, Guardian
