Young Artists Take A Big BREC Bite!

Recently BREC held Taster Workshops over Saturday and Sunday attracting 21 youths keen to find out more the Arts, BREC’s place in the community and how they can get involved.

BREC Taster Workshops invite interested young people to tour the building and experience different departments that make up this bustling cultural building.

Like any rigorous activity we always start with a warm up and ‘get to know you’ games.  Stage 1 foyer is perfect for that because when it’s not full of patrons it becomes the perfect playground!.

After a quick chat about different artforms and how art impact our lives we take the BREC Tour. Covering the whole building from Admin, Stages, Foyers, Dressing & Green Room and Workshops area to give the kids an understanding of how we all work together here at BREC.

Tech is always a tour highlight as the participants have a hands on experience changing colours and intensities in the theatre using the control desk.  This workshop we asked everyone to use the megaphone and tell the world something it needed to hear and to make a video on the stage about what’s great about being a kid.

To round off we had a visual arts weaving exercise in the foyer because performance art and visual arts are cousins and one can inspire the other.

KickStart My Arts has been funded through the Creative Communities COVID-19 Recovery Program.
