BREC Appoints New Executive Director

BREC is excited to announce that today its Board of Directors has appointed Fiona de Garis as Executive Director effective April 2018.

Ms de Garis is taking over the role from current Executive Director Sharon Custers who announced her desire to step down from the role late last year. BREC Chairman Simon Jacob said, “Fiona was chosen after an extensive and extremely competitive selection process”.

“She stood out from the other candidates because of her depth of experience working with artists both nationally and internationally, including working with many of West Australia’s leading arts organisations including the Perth International Arts Festival,” said Mr Jacob.

Ms de Garis is currently Senior Producer at Performing Lines WA, serves on the Board of Circuitwest and has this year been selected for the Australia Council’s Arts Leadership Program.

Commenting on the appointment, Ms de Garis said she was thrilled to be joining BREC’s exceptional team. “I share their vision for Bunbury as a dynamic and resilient city where artists and creative professionals seek to live and work. BREC provides the South West with award winning programs and facilities, and I am looking forward to collaborating with local artists and touring companies to further enrich the cultural life of the community”

Ms de Garis is renowned in the Australian Performing Arts industry for her work in developing independent West Australian artists. Bringing over 25 years’ experience in the arts and a great depth of knowledge to the role, she will be a valuable asset not only to BREC but the Bunbury-Geographe region.

The BREC staff and board are very excited to welcome Ms de Garis to the region when she relocates from Perth in April!
