South West orchestra bringing Disney favourites to life
Audiences are invited to sing, dress up and relive their favourite Disney moments when the Philharmonic South West Orchestra presents Disney Symphony in partnership with Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Sunday 28 June.
Disney Symphony is a special 60-minute performance which celebrates the unforgettable music that has captured hearts for generations. Featuring a vibrant selection of beloved Disney classics, audiences will enjoy magical moments from films such as Frozen, Moana, The Lion King, Toy Story and more.
The Philharmonic South West Orchestra is made up of 55 musicians from all over the South West, ranging from teenagers developing their skills to seniors in their 80’s.
PSWO Chair Celestine Pfuhl said practicing for the concert has been a fun time for the whole group.
“It’s been such a joy rehearsing this music together. Disney songs hold a special place for so many people, and there’s something incredibly uplifting about hearing these arrangements come alive through a full orchestra.”
“One of the most exciting parts of this production has been intertwining so many featured performers and musical textures into the show. From electric bass and vocal performances to two pianists performing side-by-side, every element adds something unique and dynamic to the experience.”
“We’re incredibly lucky to have such passionate and skilled musicians involved. There have been so many moments during rehearsals where individual players have absolutely captured the spirit of the music and elevated the entire ensemble.”
BREC Executive Director Fiona de Garis said the concert is a great opportunity to introduce children and young people to live orchestral music.
“If you loved Family Proms, I think you’re going to absolutely adore Disney Symphony. We’re incredibly lucky in the South West to have an orchestra of this quality made up of talented local musicians from across our region, and there’s something really special about audiences of all ages sharing the experience. One of my favourite things about these events is watching grandparents, children, families and individuals all embrace the fun – dressing up, laughing and creating memories.”
“This year we’re turning the foyer into part of the experience too. For the hour before the performance we’ll have an MC hosting Disney-inspired fun, and audiences will have the chance to parade along the red carpet and down BREC’s grand staircase in true Disney style. Whether you come as a prince, princess, villain, lion or mermaid, we want everyone to feel part of the magic.”
Disney Symphony will be performed for one day only at the Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Sunday 28 June at 3pm. Tickets are available at the BREC box office, or online at bunburyentertainment.com.
