Who are Violet Orange?

Big hearted, feel good, indi-pop! Violet Orange are a Perth based, eight-piece indie-pop outfit formed in 2018

The band initially began making a name for themselves as a four-piece – consisting of vocals, bass, guitar, keys and drums. Since then the line-up has grown, and is now made up of Danielle Foote (lead vocals) and Michaela Francis (guitar and vocals) driving the group from the front, while Jordan Abel (drums), Owen Wai (bass) and Ned Holland (keys) hold it down from the back. Completing the sound is their three-piece horn section, made up of Matt Knight (trumpet), Will Pethick (trombone) and Lachlin Brooks-Crew (tenor saxophone).

Debut EP released November 2019 titled ‘Fool Me Twice’

This collection of five tracks showcases the group’s sassy girl-band vibes–drawn from groups like The Bangles and The Go Go’s. Mixed in with this is a healthy dose of powerhouse lyricism, with vocals that range from quirky, to empowering and everything in between. Bringing the EP together, is the group’s strong groove and trademark dance ability, making it almost impossible to listen to without tapping along.

After the success of ‘Fool Me Twice’, Violet Orange was invited to perform at WAMFest 2019 and to accompany Brisbane-based group ‘Shagrock’ on the WA leg of their national tour.

The new year saw Violet Orange create their first music video to accompany their signature anthem ‘Dance All Night’. Following this, the group recorded and released their fourth single, ‘Girls!’. The Ska-based track was written about being a girl in the modern world, with lyrics focused on feeling good in your own skin.

At the heart of their music, Violet Orange’s wants people to feel good about themselves.

Their 80’s pop sound is splashed with rhythmic ska, grooving funk and soulful indie, providing the perfect backdrop for their mesmerising lyrics. While their vocals are catchy from the first listen, there is always meaning and emotion behind the lyrics.

The remainder of 2020 sees Violet Orange gigging extensively around Perth, while writing new material for a sophomore EP, eager to keep making music for people who love to groove the night away.
