Wayfinder
Saturday 10 February, 7 pm

A gathering of heart.
A tonic for the times.

Physical exuberance, sonic resonance, and collective exhilaration explode onto stage in a kaleidoscopic fusion of dance, music, and visual art.

Speaking to our sensorial nature, WAYFINDER reminds us of a state of being that transcends the words that have come to define us.

Navigating bigger and more ancient reference points, WAYFINDER recognises connection as the central axis of the universe. By the stars, the waves, and the sun, we find our way.

Humans 2.0
Friday 17 May, 7:30 pm

Ten bodies appear in a flash of light. They move in harmony for a fleeting moment and then descend into a sinuous trance. Towers grow and decay, bodies leap and are caught, as physical limits are pushed to their extreme. Can we ever find a perfect balance or is adapting to constant change the only way forward?

This next chapter of Circa’s internationally acclaimed Humans is a tightly woven choreography of bodies, pulsing with music by composer Ori Lichtik and revealed in Paul Jackson’s dramatic lighting.

Created by circus visionary Yaron Lifschitz, Humans 2.0 is intimate, primal and deeply engaged with the challenge of being human.

WASO’s Northern Lights
Sunday 30 June, 5 pm

Dalia Stasevska is one of the world’s most in-demand conductors, and she makes her much-anticipated WASO debut with a concert of Nordic masterpieces.

Opening with Sibelius’ popular Finlandia, Alexander Gavrylyuk then performs Grieg’s beloved Piano Concerto. Acclaimed at its premiere, it established Grieg’s reputation as the musical voice of his nation.

Evoking the spirit of Dalia Stasevska’s own Finnish homeland, the majestic beauty of Sibelius’ Symphony No.5 has ensured its place in the musical canon.

The Visitors
Saturday 13 July, 7:30 pm

Visitors leave. Right?

On a sweltering day in January 1788, seven clan leaders gather on a sandstone escarpment overlooking the harbour.

The attendees, six of them Elders and one new initiate, catch-up, laugh together, share a meal and compare notes. But beyond the friendly banter, protocols, and hospitality, a momentous decision is waiting to be made.

A mysterious fleet of giant nawi is amassing in the harbour and as they creep closer, these seven representatives must decide unanimously: whether to send these strangers on their way or welcome them?

BREC is exceedingly pleased to be bringing the Classic Quartet performances to the region from February to July of next year.

BREC Executive Director Fiona de Garis said, “We had so much fun with this year’s Classic Quartet we thought we would put together a hot new offering for 2024. Once again, each of the shows in BREC’s Classic Quartet represents the best Australia has to offer in live performance. Leading the charge is Wayfinder, the hit of Brisbane Festival 2022 and coming to Bunbury in February ahead of a Perth Festival season. Sydney Theatre Company and Circa are both globally acclaimed companies and the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, playing some of the most popular music in the Western canon will be led by rising international star Dalia Stasevska. We can’t wait to share their playful, creative, stirring and thought provoking productions with audiences here. I firmly believe Bunbury and the South West deserve the chance to see shows of this calibre locally and I hope the discount available through the Classic Quartet package encourages everyone to try something new along with old favourites.”
