Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre and South West Opera Company Inc. present:
GEORGE BIZET’S CARMEN
Set in the heat of Seville, Carmen is an enduring story of passion, lust, jealousy, obsession, and revenge, which remains one of the most popular operas in the canon today.
It tells the story of a hopeless soldier, Don José, who is seduced by Carmen, a fiery gypsy woman with an appetite for smuggling. Abandoning his childhood sweetheart and turning his back on his military career, the opera follows Don José in his pursuit of Carmen’s attention. Though despite his efforts and desperation, Don José’s quest for love doesn’t end quite how he’d hoped…

ABOUT SWOC
Since 1986 The South West Opera Company Inc. (SWOC) has strived to bring the people of the South West and beyond a taste of quality music and theatrical experiences. Over many years, in partnership with BREC, SWOC have produced works of exceptional quality.
It’s most outstanding, ambitious, and successful production to date, was that of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical The Phantom of the Opera in 2018. With sold out shows and standing ovations at every curtain call, SWOC received great acclaim for the outstanding work – including a number of Robert Finley Award (WA Amateur Theatre Association) nominations and awards.
In 2021, SWOC and BREC collaborated again to bring its third production of the highly popular musical, Les Misérables, to the stage. Praise and awards were once again bestowed upon the production with audiences leaving the theatre in awe of the amateur company’s talent and energy.
Other highly successful shows presented at BREC include The Fiddler on the Roof in 2016, and Beauty and the Beast in 2014.
