Lollipop

Molly lost everything during a four-month stint in prison. The council took away her house, and her two children have been handed over to social services and placed in foster care.

Now she faces the long ordeal to get her kids back, but she’s caught in a brutal bureaucratic catch-22: The council won’t house her unless her children are living with her, but social services can’t send them home with her if there’s no home to go to.

With just six months until a judge’s final ruling, Molly gets a glimmer of hope when she reconnects with her best friend from school, who’s living with her daughter in a homeless shelter. Leaning on their friendship, can Molly and Amina beat the system together?

Winner | British Independent Film Awards – Breakthrough Performance Award (Posy Sterling)

“Lollipop is an impassioned, humane and urgently performed drama, a vivid look at what it’s like to be reduced to screaming anguish by the system”
– The Guardian

“Lollipop has its fair share of tearjerking moments, but it soars in both its highs and lows”
– Empire Magazine

“It shows how lifetimes of trauma are compressed into a sob, a whimper, and, just occasionally, helpless gasping laughter.”
– Sight and Sound
