My Father’s Shadow
Folarin rarely sees his sons, but as Nigeria’s capital descends into chaos amid the 1993 election crisis, he takes his boys across the city to recover long-overdue pay. What begins as a chaotic journey through a city on edge becomes a chance for the boys to reconnect with their father, as they learn more about the man they look up to despite being estranged from him.
For Folarin, a day with his sons reveals there is more to fatherhood than simply providing for his family, and that emotional connection matters just as much. Winner of Cannes’ Camera d’Or Special Mention, My Father’s Shadow blends personal memory with national history in a tender portrait of a family under pressure.
Winner | Cannes Film Festival – Camera d’Or Special Mention
Winner | International Film Festival of India – Special Jury Award
