Runt [PG]

Adapted from Craig Silvey’s best-selling novel, Runt is a heartfelt and hilarious contemporary Australian family feature film set in the country town of Upson Downs, filmed in York, Western Australia and starring BREC’s very own board member Michelle Doake, along with a slew of other exceptional Australian actors including Jai Courtney, Celeste Barber, Deborah Mailman and Jack Thompson.

This engaging film tells the story of bright as a button eleven-year-old Annie Shearer and her best friend, an adopted stray dog called Runt. After years evading capture, Runt is fast and agile, perfect for herding runaway sheep, although he has some quirks that make this challenging. But when years of drought and a greedy local landowner puts the family farm at risk, Annie directs Runt’s extraordinary talents towards a different pursuit – winning the Agility Course Grand Championship at the prestigious – and lucrative – Krumpets Dog Show in London.

“Despite being steeped in familiar elements, this is a very charming, heartwarming film. Throughout the runtime I could feel my mouth forming a big silly grin.”
– Guardian

“This is a wonderful, uplifting film based on a big-hearted novel by one of Australia’s most gifted writers. It’s about love, friendship, kindness, pride and hope.”
– The Australian

“A delightful tale of dogged determination, dastardly behaviour and the odd minor disaster, Runt’s girl-and-her-canine-companion not only win the hearts of two nations, but also cinema-going audiences of all ages.”
– Stuff.co.nz
